“Silent Night” was written in German in the small town of Oberndorf in Austria. The words were written by the young parish priest of St. Nicholas church, Father Joseph Mohr, and the melody was written by the organist in the neaby village of Arnsdorf, Franz Gruber. It was first performed there in Austria on Christmas Eve, 1818.
